Why all this fuss about birthdays?

What is it that makes them so great?

Why all this fuss about birthdays?

What is it that makes them so great?

To tell me I’m now one year older

Is something that I really hate.

I’m aware of the loss of my vigor;

“My get-up-and-go” has now went —

I don’t need this day to remind me

The strength of my youth is now spent.

So, come, — bring your greetings and presents

To remember the day of my birth;

But you’ll only serve to remind me —

I’m near my departure from Earth.

             BUT WAIT!

I’m happy to say I’ve another —

A day I’d much rather recall —

The day I took Jesus as Saviour —

My NEW birth — the best day of all.

My spirit is living and vibrant

(If my physical body grows weak),

I live in the blest expectation —

My departure to Him I now seek.

‘Till then I enjoy all His presents —

Not given on only one day

His faithfulness ‘bideth forever;

And His presence is with me to stay.
