Richard Wurmbrand Audio Sermons

Richard Wurmbrand was Jewish, one of four boys, born in 1909 in Bucharest. The family lived in Istanbul for a short period of time. He lost his father at the age of 9. When he was 15, he had returned to Romania. He studied Marxism in Moscow as a teenager. On 26th October 1936, he married Sabrina Oster. They both converted to Christianity in 1938, as they listened to Christian Wolfkes, a christian carpenter. From that time, they were involved in outreach and ministry, despite the danger of being apprehended and persecuted. When the communists took over Romania, Wurmbrand ministered underground, reaching out to Russians as well as his countrymen. He and his wife were arrested, Sabrina for 3 years and Wurmbrand for 14 years, Wurmbrand released for part of it and recaptured again.  He suffered deeply, spending 3 years in solitary confinement in an underground cell while undergoing physical torture. His wife was told more than once that he had died. He was eventually released in 1964, a ransom having been paid for him. His story was spread across the world as Wurmbrand preached in many countries, deeply impacting Christians. He started Voice for the Martyrs, firstly reaching out to suffering Christians in Communist lands, later to  Christian martyrs in the Muslim countries. Wurmbrand was the author of 18 books in English as well as others in Romania. His best-known book was Tortured for Christ, published in 1967. Despite all he had gone through, Wurmbrand reached 91years and passed away on the 17th of February in 2001 in California, 6 months after his wife had died. His bravery and fearless witness for Christ under threat of life in a communist society, will continue to inspire Christians.
