It Is Good to Be Here

A few disciples gathered once
With common mind and heart,
High on the mountain-top with Christ,
Just they themselves apart,
And sweet communion there they felt
’Twixt souls and spirits dear,
And Peter cried, with glowing heart,
It is good, it is good, to be here.

The saints above looked longingly
On that communion rare,
And slipped away from heaven’s courts
To join the meeting there.
The world was very far below,
And heav’n was very near,
When Peter said, with glowing heart,
It is good, it is good, to be here.

The Savior stood with shining face
And raiment white as light,
And all his hidden glory showed
To their enraptured sight.
While talk of his atonement fell
Upon their wond’ring ear,
And Peter said, with glowing heart,
It is good, it is good, to be here.

No fable cunningly devised,
No fairy tale was this:
They stood with-in the glory-cloud,
They felt the heav’nly bliss;
They heard when God the Father’s voice
Rang through the atmosphere,
When Peter said, with glowing heart,
It is good, it is good to be here.

And heav’n is near to earth again
When saints commune in love,
And holy spirits fain would come
To join us from above;
The Savior’s glory we behold,
The Father’s voice we hear,
And sing with spirits all aglow,
It is good, it is good to be here.
