Wrong Way Street - Max M. Johnson

God made a man, and gave him life, to live in peace and not in strife.

He placed him in His garden fair; all things provided for his care.

God made a man, and gave him life, to live in peace and not in strife.

He placed him in His garden fair; all things provided for his care.

And evenings, in the cool of day, He walked with him along the way;

Then gave, to help him live his life, the greatest gift of all — his wife.

All this God did, His love to share with man and wife, a perfect pair.

Each day was spent without a care; and music there was everywhere.

Until one day when all went wrong and all went dark and no more song.

It was not God Who changed the plan — it started in the heart of man.

They listened to another voice that gave to them another choice —

To turn from God and disobey, with promise of a “better way”,

So, pride in heart, they took the bait; no turning back, it was too late!

Now peace was gone, and in their sin they lived a life of strife and din.

Now what about our world today? We’re centuries and miles away

From that first act to disobey.  Are we now better off than they?

The answer now is plain to see: We turned our heads and said that we

No longer need “In God we trust”. Our gods are money power, lust

Of flesh and eyes and pride of life (that toppled Adam and his wife),

And yet the same God over all, Who walked with man before his fall

Stands now with heart of love to say, “I have for you a better way:

Come unto Me, I’ll give you rest, and set you on My path that’s best.”

So, will we then the lesson learn? We cannot live if God we spurn!

Then humbly let us bow and pray: “Lord Jesus, take control today.”
