“Are Ye Able,” Said the Master

“Are ye able,” said the Master,
“To be crucified with me?”

“Are ye able,” said the Master,
“To be crucified with me?”
“Yea,” devoted spirits answered,
To the death we follow thee!”

Lord, we are able! Our spirits are thine.
We can be strong by thy strength divine:
Thy mighty Spirit within us shall be
Our strength to fulfill
Devoted loyalty.

“Are ye able, to continue
In temptations with your Lord?
Can ye be despised, rejected,
By this present world abhorred?”

“Are ye able to be faithful
In the time of darkness’ pow’r?
Can ye drink the cup of sorrow?
Can ye watch with me one hour?”

“Are ye able,” calls the Master,
“To endure reproach with me?”
Still devoted spirits answer,
“We will suffer all for thee!”
