Bob Jones Sr Audio Sermons

Bob Jones came from a family of twelve children. They lived on a small farm and the children helped with the farm chores and selling vegetables, including Bob. His parents were devoted Christians. Although a reticent child, he had quick comprehension and showed an ability to perform and recite. He was often called to do so when visitors came by, his father requesting him to do so, and although embarrassed, he dared not refuse. He must have overcome his shyness for at the age of 12 in 1895, he delivered a speech on a box in front of a chemist for the stretch of 20 minutes. He also became a Sunday School teacher at the age of 12. That same year he held his first outreach, and 60 souls were converted to Christ. He was a licenced circuit preacher by the age of 15. He was widely used by God, buildings filled to overflowing and many found salvation. By the age of 17, both parents had died. He experienced heartache when his young wife of 9 months died from tuberculosis just 10 months after their marriage. Three years later he married Mary and they had one child, Bob Junior. She outlived him reaching 101 years. Bob Jones had preached to as many as 15 million people by the time he was 40. Although he never wanted to count those who came to know the Lord, it is believed that tens of thousands were saved during his campaigns. He was also not scared to use media and modern technology for the spreading of the gospel realizing their potential as tools rather than hinderances. He had a radio ministry for many years and some of his evangelistic campaigns were broadcast. Another interesting fact about Bob Jones is his love of politics and his close affiliation with many politicians. The Bob Jones University is the amazing achievement of an amazing man. Being brought face to face with the fact that many young people left homes to study at secular colleges only to lose their faith and turn their back on God, he saw the need of a fundamental, Bible-based university to fill the gap and provide a Christian alternative. The College was opened in Florida on December 1st, 1926, Bob Jones often funding needs from his own income and personal savings, taking no salary. The school moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1947 during which time his son Bob Jones Jnr had taken over the running of the College.
