Curbing the Tongue Is Hard

It’s hard to curb my tongue within the home
The world’s outside, I’m all alone

It’s hard to curb my tongue within the home
The world’s outside, I’m all alone
If no-one hears, they will not know
My family are suff’ring so

I sometimes see my daughter wince
A sister twitch, a brother flinch
But no-one else has seen it too
What matters what my tongue can do

However God was there, He knew
Each single cutting word or two
He saw the pain which without care
I handed out with more to spare

And yet it was a loving smile
Which said, My child, come stop a while
If your tongue is My instrument
To heal and help it would be bent

Give up your right to hurt and slay
With words there’s so much hurt to-day
If you would only let Me take
Your sharp quick tongue to consecrate

I’ll help you curb that hurting tongue
If it alone to Me belong
Within the home an instrument
A precious tool that’s ‘heaven sent
