HEART’S DESIRE - Louis Gervais

HEART’S DESIRE

Hello and greetings in the Name of the Him Whom we are to Desire, Jesus Christ!

Paul wrote the following heartfelt pieces: “My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you—but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.” –Galatians 4:19-20 . “For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.” –2 Corinthians 11:2 . “For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 1:8

I believe Paul’s desire for the Christians to be faithful to Christ gives us a small peak at God’s desire for Christians to be faithful to Christ. “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” –Romans 8:26-27 . Consider the great self-sacrifice of Christ Jesus, “Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” –Titus 2:14

God wants us to want Him. David wrote, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in His temple.” –Psalm 27:4 . Asaph went so far as to pray, “With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.” –Psalm 73:24-25

The Lord’s heart’s desire is that He be our heart’s desire. May we not withhold our hearts from Him Who gave so much for us—yes—even Himself. “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.” –Psalm 84:2

Thanks for praying for my health; I don’t feel sick anymore. Heinrich and I completed our 1000km+ tour through Zastron, Ladybrand, Bethlehem, Frankfort, Reitz and Winburg—returning to Bloemfontein on Saturday. Thank you for praying! We were able to make a lot of good appointments for preaching the Word of God.

Fueled by the realization that our friends at the Bible School were reaching out to the drunk college students in Stellenbosch this weekend, Heinrich and I prayed and decided to do the same in Bloemfontein on Saturday night. We had a few good conversations and handed out Gospel tracts from 10:20 P.M. to 1 A.M. Lord willing we’re going to do it again this week if you’d like to pray for us. I’m scheduled to preach next Sunday afternoon—usually only a handful of people come to the monthly meeting in Bloemfontein. May He be glorified!
