Prayers Not Answered

My prayers seem to land at my feet,
Not ascend
To a God of compassion and care
For how can it be that the answer was
Lost,
And I landed in hopeless despair?

Was my confidence real in the God
Who declared
That His ear would attend to my cry?
Did I trust that His answer would be for the best,
Though it would my petition deny?
