R A Torrey Audio Sermons

RA Torrey was the son of a banker. He was born in Hoboken in New Jersey. In 1875, he graduated from Yale university and from the Divinity School in 1978. After that he became a congregational minister in Garrettsville, Ohio. He and his wife Clara had five children. He furthered his studies in theology attending Leipzig university as well as Erlanger University in 1882 and 1883. In 1889, he went to join D L Moody in his evangelistic outreach and then became the superintendent of the Moody Bible Institute. During the Spanish – American war, Torrey served as a chaplain at Camp Chickamauga in 1898, as well as Camp Bowie and Camp Kearny. He preached at revival campaigns extensively throughout the English-Speaking countries of the world with Charles Alexander singing at the meetings during the years 1902 – 1903. In 1906 to 1907, he preached across America and Canada. He was instrumental in founding an institute like Moody Bible Institute at Los Angeles and served there as Dean from 1912 – 1924. This is currently Biola University. Torrey’s last meeting was in Florida in 1927, before further meetings were cancelled because of his health. He died on October 26th, 1928, in Ashville North Carolina at the age of 72 after a ministry throughout the world. He had written 40, book which continue to bless and inspire Christians. His had been a fruitful ministry.
