Richard Wurmbrandt was one of four boys. He was born in Bucharest. The family also lived in Istanbul for some time. He returned to Romania and studied Marxism in Moscow. He and his wife, Sabrina were saved in 1938 while they listened to a Christian carpenter, Christian Wolfkes, preaching. They immediately sought to influence others to a saving knowledge of Christ which became more dangerous when the communists took over Roumania. At this stage they became an underground movement preaching and gathering in secret. He and his wife were arrested, Wurmbrandt being imprisoned for 14 years in total and Sabrina for 3. His release in 1964 was celebrated across the world and he became an international speaker warning of the danger of Communism, and calling Christians in the West to a more dedicated and committed Christian walk. He was the author of 18 books and also initiated ‘Voice of the Matyrs’. He died at the age of 91in California, 6 months after his wife’s death. His life, mionistry and books still bless people throughout the world.
