The World Stands Condemned - Lee Brainard

There is growing concern in America over world-devastating apocalyptic scenarios  — global warming, global cooling (an ice age), World War III, asteroidal impact, drug resistant viruses, drought and famine, extreme solar flares. Such fears drive modern politics. It is amazing how much energy men expend on such possible scenarios and how little concern they show for the one apocalyptic scenario guaranteed to happen  — the second coming of Christ.

Men bury their heads in the sand ignoring the inconvenient truth that God has destined this world for judgment. It will be judged by fire at the second coming of Christ  — as it was judged by flood in Noah’s day. There is nothing man can do to prevent this. There is nothing he can do soften its blow or hide from it. (2 Peter 3:4-7).

But why has God destined the world for judgment? Unbelief. God graciously endures the weaknesses of men on the path of faith  — the path of trusting and seeking light. But he warns men on the path of unbelief  — the path of trusting and seeking lies which tell them they don’t have to submit to God and his will. As we read, “He that believes not is condemned already … this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, as demonstrated by their evil deeds.” (John 3:18-19).
