Why Should I Not Be First?

Why should I not be first, dear Lord,
In all consideration?
Surely the rest should see that I
Deserve their adulation!

I will not make an effort, Lord,
For others’ need of care.
After all that’s spent on me,
Nought is left to spare!

I am not really selfish, Lord,
But people need to see
That life revolves conclusively
And only around me!

I left the realms of heaven, child,
I came to die upon the cross
Your mortal soul to save.

The King of Kings was sacrificed
To rid your life from sin.
How can you stoop to selfishness
And say you follow Him?
