Yesterday, To - Day, and Forever

Ah!  the weary cares and fears,
Earnest yearnings through the years!

Ah!  the weary cares and fears,
Earnest yearnings through the years!
Is it not a vale of tears?

Ah!  the love we gladly greet
Ever now is incomplete;
If the melody be sweet,

And the harmony be true,
Earlier loss is more in view,
Ill forebodings shadow through.

After wintry frost and rime,
Even now, the heavenly chime
Is a pledge of summer time.

Anchorage within the veil,
Ever steadfast, cannot fail,
If the wildest storms assail.

Angel songs of love are clearer,
Earth is brighter, death is dearer,
If the heavenly home be nearer.

All in perfect union brought,
Every link which God has wrought
In the chains of loving thought:

All our dear ones, far asunder,
Each shall join the anthem-thunder
In our future joy and wonder

All shall come where naught shall sever,
Endless meeting, parting never,
In God’s house to dwell forever.
