Polycarp

Polycarp

The Governor of Smyrma in the second century AD ordered the Christian Polycarp to be brought before him. He ordered him to renounce Christ and worship idols or he would be thrown to the lions. Polycarp answered “ These 86 years have I served my Lord. He never did me any harm, and I cannot deny my Lord and Master now”. They took him and tied him to a stake, covered him with faggots and lighted a fire. As the flames burnt into his flesh he rejoiced that he was accounted worthy to suffer for Christ’s sake. ( Heb 11:35)
