WHERE WERE YOU - Hannes Zegement Grove

WHERE WERE YOU

Where were you when I fought all night
When death surrounded me with all her might
When my tears flowed hoping to see the light
When they blinded me and left me to die
Where hast thou been?

Where were you when I slept on the street
Or when I was beaten and you I did need
When my pain was too great to bear
Your words meant nothing when you said you cared
Where hast thou been kindly share?

Where were you when they ripped me apart
That once when they caught me off guard
When death took me by the hand
And I got angry and had one last stand?
You did not know, how could you? You weren’t there
In anger I looked up—my face just stared
Do not tell me don’t dare, that you care

Where were you I cried in anger
Get lost written on a banner
When I heard a little voice
I’ve been there my child, by my own choice
I saw the blood you shed and the blood you bled
When you were crying and almost dying
While your close ones weren’t there
I went with you when you could not bear
Stay strong for this path of yours—it’s very long.
